Press-Herald
My attention has been called to a New York dispatch published in a recent issue of your paper, which states that the founder of the New Thought Alliance held beliefs similar to those held by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. In consideration of those of your readers who may be confused by this statement, it should be said that Christian Science bears no resemblance to any system of so-called mental therapeutics.
Christian Science is the reinstatement of primitive Christianity, which includes spiritual healing, and relies upon the divine Mind alone as the healing power. It does not employ the efforts of the human mind to accomplish its work. Christ Jesus explained the Christianly scientific method of healing when he said, "If ye continue in my word, ... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This understanding of the truth, this understanding of the operation of divine Principle, which Christian Science gives, enables its possessor to demonstrate God's healing power.
Mrs. Eddy in her work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has distinguished her followers in these words (p. 182): "The act of healing the sick through divine Mind alone, of casting out error with Truth, shows your position as a Christian Scientist."
