Auckland, New Zealand (First Church).—A new building for First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Auckland, is shortly to be erected at the corner of Symonds Street and St. Martin's Lane. The present temporary hall will be removed and the building will house both church and Sunday school. It will be in reinforced concrete and structural steel, faced externally with red brick and artificial stone, while the roof will be of red tiles. The building will cover the entire freehold section, which is one hundred and twenty feet by fifty-two feet; and the height of the Symonds Street facade will be forty-six feet. The main entrance will be from Symonds Street, through a portico with four Ionic columns, twenty-two feet in height. There will be another entrance doorway from the top of St. Martin's Lane, connecting directly with a ramped passage. On the Symonds Street level there will be a spacious foyer. Beyond will be the main auditorium, with a seating capacity of five hundred. There will be a barrel-vaulted ceiling, but the auditorium itself will be kept severely simple in design, although there will be a small amount of rich decoration surrounding the platform.
