Christian Science has been my only physician for thirty...
Christian Science has been my only physician for thirty years, and I wish to express my gratitude for the many healing and the joy, peace, and happiness it has brought into my experience. Mrs. Eddy gives us much enlightenment and instruction on the subject of obedience; and we find as we go along in Christian Science that it is very necessary to have it ever near to our hearts. Several years ago I had a rather hard lesson to learn in obedience. My husband was transferred to a city in the South, about a thousand miles from the place we were accustomed to call home. When our new home was established, I made the trip with our son, who was two months old. While we were en route, my mother passed away very suddenly. It was a very great shock to me and I did not seem able to rise above it, and I became overwhelmed with homesickness as well. Then the problem of lack made its appearance.
Nearly two years went by, and still I had not overcome the sense of grief. The "still small voice" of Truth had been speaking to me and kept saying that I ought to be more grateful; but because I was so mesmerized with self-pity I was unable to see anything to be grateful for. But the voice of Truth persisted, and finally I decided that I would try to see something for which to be grateful. I expected to find one or two things, but I was amazed to find how much I really did have to be grateful for. I kept on being grateful, and in a few days I began to feel a sense of contentment and well-being. About three weeks after I was awakened out of this mesmerism, my husband received a telegram offering him a position in the city from which we had come. We knew it was in answer to prayer, and we were both deeply grateful. There was one thing that did not seem just right about this proposition, and that was that the salary mentioned was smaller than the one we were trying to get along on. We pondered over this question for some time. Finally, feeling sure that God was leading us, my husband accepted the position. He had worked for only two weeks when his salary was doubled, and nine months from that time we were able to purchase a home. That same year I had the precious privilege of class instruction. This experience was a great proof to us of the infinite abundance of divine Love, manifested to us through obedience.
I wish to express my gratitude especially for the glorious privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School, as during the experience above mentioned the statements of truth memorized from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy during my Sunday school experience were indeed angels of love and comfort.
