I am deeply grateful that Christian Science has come into my life; for since that time I have been a greatly changed man. At first I had at my disposal neither the Bible nor the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I did not understand the words which I heard from the desk at the Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and I allowed myself to be diverted by many things merely incidental. The hymns which we sang, however, seemed to me very lovely, especially the words of hymns by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; and I took from them some lines which at once impressed me greatly, uplifting me and prevailing over wrong thinking and acting.

The Bohemian group which had surrounded me with all sorts of passions and appetites suddenly fell away from me, and after a very social, pleasure-seeking life I stood alone. Still I did not feel any loneliness; for everything that I was experiencing and learning through Christian Science kept me so busy that I was only too happy to be alone with God. Thus I had the privilege of learning in a wonderful way that God is our Friend. Soon I obtained a Bible, and the textbook was kindly placed at my disposal. Then I went to a Christian Science practitioner, who patiently and lovingly led me into divine Science. I saw how inconsistently I had been living before, and that all the disagreeable characteristics which I sought and found in others were very much my own. I was self-seeking, stubborn, arrogant, deceitful, covetous. For the first time, now, I learned of the all-loving God and His reflection. Before then the Bible, the Word of God, seemed to me impossible of comprehension and faintly recalled tedious school lessons in religion. Now I found people who believed in God and shaped their lives accordingly. The textbook, the Bible, the German Herald of Christian Science, articles, and lectures became my daily literature, and a new life began to appear to me.

When I read in the Gospel of Matthew, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself," I knew that the Bible would never in future be a tedious school lesson. So I am never lonely now. I am sincerely grateful that the practitioner always helps me most willingly to remove seeming difficulties in my path. In this way the problem of supply was most satisfactorily solved after a short time, and all manifestations of illness as they have appeared have been quickly overcome.
