Signs of the Times

[Bishop Frank W. Warne, in the Christian Advocate, New York, New York]

Paul, in his missionary evangelism, had founded a church in Crete; he could not remain there, so, according to what is missionary custom to the present day, he appointed one of his converts to carry on the work. His choice fell on "Titus, mine own son after the common faith." Paul wrote concerning his purpose in leaving Titus in Crete, "That thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting." That is, make the wrong right. This was no small matter in Crete. ...

To make the wrong right Christ [Jesus] came into the world and gave his life, and such everywhere is the mission of the individual Christian and the whole church. This conception of Christian service greatly helps in hard places. In the home, church, business, social contacts, or anywhere, where things are wrong, it is the Christian's business to live to make them right. If you are in a hard place, where much is wrong, think of the head of the church saying to you, "For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting."
