It is to be regretted that your correspondent does not...

West Cumberland Times

It is to be regretted that your correspondent does not always go to the literature of a movement itself rather than to that of its critics for correct information. The recently published book, "Our New Religion," gives a most erroneous impression of Mrs. Eddy, the teachings of Christian Science, and the church she founded. Several critical reviews of this book have been published. May I quote from one, written by a disinterested person, which appeared in The Friend of December 20, 1929: "It is most regrettable that in the study of a question on which many are seeking light there should be many blemishes of taste on the part of the writer. There is a vein of flippancy and cynicism continually appearing in his record of Mrs. Eddy, and in his analysis of her creed, which prevents this book from being the balanced and judicial inquiry that we need and should expect from the author. No system of religious belief should be held up to ridicule."

In writing this book, the author was very evidently dealing with a subject which was unfamiliar to him. This is specially noticeable in the chapter dealing with the doctrine of Christian Science; and I would ask your readers to accept my assurance that Christian Scientists do not hold the views which are therein attributed to them.
