I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, but during the past eleven years have experienced many proofs of God's power to heal and save.

Having been through a great sorrow, I felt the need for something more than that which the church I had belonged to could give me; and having heard a little about Christian Science from a fellow traveler, I sent for books to find out more about it. The first words of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," gave me great comfort, and I have never failed to find support when I have let go every material prop and leaned with faith and understanding on the "sustaining infinite."

I was far away from any Reading Room or practitioner in a small township in Central Africa, and though I found Science and Health difficult to understand at first, I felt it contained the truth and continued reading, earnestly praying that I would be shown the way. This prayer was answered immediately in a manner that seemed wonderful to me at the time, though now I know that it was an unfolding of good which is ever present to help those who seek it; and from a most unexpected source right at hand came loving help and encouragement. Since that time, thanks to that willing help, though progress has seemed slow I have gone forward in the knowledge of the truth, and have proved daily that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (ibid., p. 494). I have relied entirely on God, and with the ever loving help of practitioners and friends, many difficulties have been overcome, among them constipation, a broken bone, fever, whooping cough, diphtheria, bronchitis, severe headaches, and many of the ills believed to be incidental to childhood.
