The Christian Science Sunday School

As a result of our Leader's faithfulness to God, her great love for mankind, and her constant prayers, we have our Christian Science Sunday School. The spiritual ideas which came to Mrs. Eddy enabled her to give us the inspired counsel which we find in the Manual in regard to what the Sabbath school children shall be taught. The first rule reads (Manual, Art. XX, Sect. 2), "The Sabbath School children shall be taught the Scriptures, and they shall be instructed according to their understanding or ability to grasp the simpler meanings of the divine Principle that they are taught."

It is most fitting that in our Sunday school, where the Christ, Truth, is being brought to the consciousness of the pupils, special attention should be given to the teaching of the Scriptures; for it was through the study of the Scriptures that our Leader discovered Christian Science. To teach both the letter and the spirit of the Scriptures, it is necessary for one diligently to search the Bible. The Word of God uplifts the consciousness of the children spiritually, teaches them the grand lessons contained in the Scriptures, and fills their thoughts with the healing messages of Truth and Love.

The children come to Sunday school to learn how to be faithful followers of our Master, to appreciate his obedience to God, and to understand his mighty works. Christ Jesus constantly expounded the Scriptures to his disciples. We find this not only in the early part of his ministry, but even in the walk to Emmaus after the resurrection, for his disciples' hearts burned within them as he opened to them the Scriptures.
