Christianity

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 372), "Christian Science and Christianity are one." This revealed truth stands as a great light to the world to-day. Even though the darkness comprehends it not, its effulgence, pure, steadfast, unwavering, is illumining the way for thousands upon thousands who have felt its healing rays. And in the degree that Christian Science is accepted and practiced it brings salvation to humanity. The verity of Mrs. Eddy's statement has been, and is being, tested under innumerable circumstances and conditions; and Christian Science has thus been established as a Science, practical and demonstrable in every phase of human experience.

Of what avail would numbers be were it not for the science of numbers, with its fundamental rules? So it is with Christianity. How can one utilize it in any sure, practical way for the salvation of mankind, without first reaching the Science of Christianity and learning its divine Principle to be God, with His unerring, immutable law? God's law pertains to the Science of Being, including man's relation to God. And God's law is the law of good, the law of Life, Truth, and Love. But until this is perceived and acknowledged mankind cannot demonstrate true Christianity, or come into the full heritage of the children of God. The Psalmist says that man was made "to have dominion over the works" of His hands. The Scriptures are very definite on the point of spiritual man's dominion; and Christ Jesus spent his three years' ministry proving it beyond cavil, even to the overcoming of death and the grave. For a period of about three hundred years after the Master's ascension, the disciples and followers of Jesus continued this proof by repeating the mighty works which he did. Then the understanding of this dominion was lost.

Beginning on page 483 of Science and Health, we find these words: "Christianity will never be based on a divine Principle and so found to be unerring, until its absolute Science is reached. When this is accomplished, neither pride, prejudice, bigotry, nor envy can wash away its foundation, for it is built upon the rock, Christ." Our Leader reached this absolute Science and discerned its governing laws. After the most positive tests of her discovery, she gave it to the world in her textbook, so that all mankind may avail itself of the privilege of proving individually the truths therein stated.
