Before coming to Christian Science I had been under the care of specialists for a so-called incurable disease of the blood. I underwent a course of treatments at various intervals. Finally, the last specialist gravely shook his head and said he could hold out no hope of a permanent cure. I was discouraged and wanted to end it all. As I sat in my room alone, contemplating what to do next, Christian Science flashed into my thought—like a ray of light from heaven. I jumped to my feet and exclaimed: "I will. It is my only hope." The next day being Sunday I went to a Christian Science church, and I shall never forget that service. I was thrilled with the truth, and kept saying, "This is what I have always wanted." After church I looked up a Reading Room and started to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I became so absorbed that I was not conscious of time or place. I purchased a copy of the book, which I read even until early morning. I began to notice a great change taking place, like an upheaval. I found my chest expanding, and I walked with a buoyant step. In a short time the symptoms, which had been giving me so much concern, left. The change was so great that my friends hardly knew me. I gained thirty pounds in weight, and again desired to live.

Many other ills have been overcome, including injuries sustained in an accident. Through the understanding gained by the study and application of the truth as taught in Christian Science the desire for tobacco and strong drink, as well as immoral habits, has been destroyed. Although brought up in a Christian home I had grown skeptical. I rejoice that Christian Science has given me a God I can love and understand, and has opened up the Bible to me. I am grateful for every activity of the Christian Science church organization, so wisely established by Mrs. Eddy, whereby we can learn more of this wonderful truth, serve God, and help our fellowman.—Joseph S.
