In reply to a writer in a recent issue, I would recommend him to read "Christian Science Wartime Activites," a book of three hundred and seventy-eight pages. It will enlighten him with regard to what Christian Scientists did in Europe and America during the war. Christian Science practitioners are busy healing the sick and reforming the sinning who come to them for help. They do not, however, thrust their opinions or method of healing upon those who prefer to rely upon medical practice. During the world epidemic of influenza, Christian Scientists did invaluable work in checking the epidemic and healing those afflicted. If the writer would read the testimonies published monthly in The Christian Science Journal, and weekly in the Christian Science Sentinel, he would see a little of what is being accomplished. I will answer his so-called "interesting facts" one by one.
(1) Every statement in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is perfectly clear to those who accept the truth that God, Spirit, is infinite, and that His infinite manifestation is the spiritual universe, including spiritual man. There are no contradictory statements in the book to those who understand it. The Bible seems contradictory to those who do not understand it, and few have discerned the difference between the spiritual and material accounts of creation, which are found in the first and second chapters of Genesis respectively. The statements that man is formed from the dust of of ground, and that man in made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, are diametrically opposed.
(2) Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science was proved in the law courts to be original, and, consequently, she did not borrow her system from Phineas P. Quimby, who was a magnetic healer.
