I have been healed of many physical conditions, such as sick headaches, running sores in my ears, influenza, pneumonia, hay fever, colds, and, last but not the least important, of many faults of disposition and character. At one time, about six or seven years ago, although believing in Christian Science, I was not attending church and not doing any regular studying of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. There was no Christian Science church nearer than ten miles, and so I did not feel it a duty to attend. However, at that time, a discordant physical condition tried to fasten itself upon my thought, and was manifested in large sores in my ears. My understanding was not equal to this test, so I called for help from a loving practitioner. While the healing was taking place, I was led to see that it was my duty and privilege to attend church in the neighboring city. If anyone had told me then that I would be going to this church twice every week, I could not have believed it. However, we are taught in Science and Health (p. 199) that "the devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible;" and from that day to this I have never missed a Sunday service or a Wednesday evening testimony meeting on account of lack.

Soon after I took my stand in regard to attending church, I found honest work to do which gave me enough to pay carfares, to help support the church, and to subscribe for the Christian Science periodicals. This work was menial and hard, but by willingness, obedience, and prayerful study I was soon led to work for which I was much more adapted; and, although at times the way has seemed uphill, I have never again lacked the needed things. This has been a wonderful demonstration from the very first.

After I began going to church, and reading and studying in earnest, the sick headaches, which I had had almost all my life, and which often confined me to bed, just faded into their native nothingness; and about a year later I awoke to the fact that I was free from them. Hay fever also disappeared through a better understanding of God. One day, about five years ago, while doing my washing I splashed a lot of boiling water up over the back of my hand. The pain was intense for a moment, and the first thought that came was that I would not be able to put my hand into the water to finish the work. Then, as clear as if the words had been spoken, there came to thought a sentence from Science and Health (p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." The pain abated, and I had that hand in hot water all the forenoon. The next day there were not even any marks on the hand.
