Gratitude Expressed in Service

Prior to learning the truth as taught in Christian Science, the question of healing the sick as our Master did, through spiritual means alone, had been a perplexing problem to many; so much so, in fact, that some had seemingly drifted on to the shoals of skepticism, even to the extent of doubting whether the marvelous works of healing so often chronicled in the Gospels ever really occurred. To help these doubtful ones it may be permissible to relate a personal experience.

For many years a woman had been seeking for a chart, for something tangible to cling to on the strenuous voyage of life. Instead of finding any appreciable help in the solution of her problem, she continued to flounder about vainly in the shallow waters of mere human reasoning which, in a later hour of need, proved to be a veritable sea of doubt and uncertainty. Serious physical ailments had accumulated, resulting in a chronic invalidism of long standing, which had brought severe and continued suffering. Eventually she found her way to The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, with a faint hope that the mental anguish incident upon her long period of suffering might be somewhat alleviated, but without the slightest hope that the physical troubles could be helped as well.

Then a miracle was performed! During this first visit to The Mother Church she was instantaneously and permanently healed of all these ailments. In the twinkling of an eye the trend of the accumulated thinking of years in searching for God was changed to an understanding of Him as divine Principle, Love, which to-day as of yore is ever operative to heal, bless, and save to the uttermost the sick as well as the sinning ones of earth.
