[Written for the Sentinel]

As Dawns the Day

As gently as the pearly light of dawn
Gleams forth and, silent, with nor pomp nor might,
Displaces night's dark cloak which lies o'er all,
Until the light of day bursts on our sight;

So dawns on thought the gentle Christ-idea,
Displacing darkness with its glorious light,
Sweet simple truths about thy God and thee,
Revealing Life, harmonious, free and bright.
