As I look back over life's human pathway and count the golden milestone from sense to Soul, my heart fills with gratitude for the many wonderful blessings received through Christian Science.
About eighteen years ago my health was failing, and I was attended with doubt and fear. My pathway seemed dark and obscure. Material remedies had failed one by one. Many loving hands reached out in a material way to help me. Some of my dearest friends predicted my passing with the next falling of the autumn leaves; but through the earnest study of the Christ, Truth, as revealed in the Bible and in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the loving help of practitioners, although my progress seemed slow, I have been healed and have witnessed the beautiful autumn leaves fall these eighteen years. I learned, too, that "the blending tints of leaf and flower show the order of matter to be the order of mortal mind" (Science and Health, p. 552), and that like changing mortal beliefs they fall one by one, but that all real Life is God, infinite and supreme, "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."
In the language of Paul, I still am learning to "prove all things" and to "hold fast that which is good," also to prove our dear Leader's words, "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble'" (Science and Health, p. 444). The way grows brighter and brighter each year; and I am grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, who by her purity and consecrated life imbibed the message of the Christ-idea and gave it to the world. I am also grateful to the many encouraging friends who have so lovingly assisted me along the rugged way.
