Those who have turned to Christian Science have found that a new and glorious light has been shed upon the pages of the Bible, which became so illumined that darkness and doubt fled, understanding was gained, the veil of mystery was rent asunder, and God, Spirit, was revealed as the only cause and creator, who "saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." At first, perhaps, although they were willing to accept this revelation of God's allness and goodness without question, the explanation of the unreality of the testimony of the material senses was not so easily accepted; but eventually the point was reached where it was seen that the only way to deal effectively with this question was so to fill thought with the truth that by its very presence evil was excluded from consciousness in the same way that light dissipates darkness. Educated beliefs in the form of obnoxious habits and the abnormalities of disease were probably the first to feel the touch of Truth, and to vanish. Having received much benefit themselves from the newfound truth, and being convinced that it was in accord with the teaching of Christ Jesus, they desired to share it with others, being willing that the test Jesus gave, "Ye shall know them by their fruits," should be applied to this religion, and that it should stand on its merits; for Truth must inevitably prevail.

God is Spirit, as the Bible declares, and infinite. It is impossible for infinite Spirit to fill all space and at the same time for matter to exist as a reality. Moreover, the belief in the reality of matter implies either another creator besides God, Spirit, or that Spirit produces its opposite, matter. The statement, "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made," strengthens the Christian Science contention that God is Spirit; that all that God, Spirit, has made, including man and the universe, is spiritual; and that the material universe, so called, is constituted of false human concepts. The problem before each one is to give up the false belief in the reality of material selfhood, which is the belief in a life, an existence, apart from Spirit. This is surely what Jesus meant when he said, Deny thyself—deny materiality utterly.

The difference between Jesus and any other one is clearly shown in the Glossary definition on page 589 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Jesus. The highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man's immortality." Christ Jesus defined his mission in then words, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." He proved death to be an unreality when he raised Lazarus and others; and having thus proved the presence and availability of the everlasting law of Life, he—as Paul said—"hath abolished death."
