Out of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for...

Out of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and mine, I am sending this testimony, hoping that by it others may be helped. For about twenty years I was a nervous and physical wreck. From early childhood I had been a sufferer from neuralgic headaches. For relief I used material applications; also morphine or some other opiate. About twelve years ago all these remedies failed to give even temporary relief; and for one month I suffered from headches day and night. The doctor told me that I had taken so much medicine it had lost all power to help me.

Then my attention was called to Christian Science. Like many others, I found that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." We bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to read it; also called a practitioner. I soon began to understand that material law and nerves do not govern man, for God alone governs him; also that God never made neuralgia, and never gave it power to create anything; and God is the only cause and creator. I received help, but the healing of the headaches was slow. There was complete healing of other discordant conditions, one of which had been pronounced by the doctors a floating kidney, which they said nothing but an operation could help. This condition was entirely healed after I had been studying and having treatment in Science a short time; and there has never been any return of the trouble. I realized that as God made all and maintains all, there is nothing under His government that can break away or float from its proper place. On another occasion, by clinging steadfastly to the truth and refusing to allow fear to enter my consciousness, I was healed of all the symptoms of influenza in one treatment.

I am indeed grateful for this understanding of God and His Christ that not only has healed me, but has enabled me to help others; and I am very thankful to Mrs. Eddy, who has led us by her writings to the understanding of what Jesus meant when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church; also in a branch church; and for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Emily A. Watkins, Jacksonville, Fla.
