[Written for the Sentinel]

Bethlehem

Through the night a star has beamed;
O'er the dark a ray has gleamed.
What the meaning? It is clear.
Waits the portent? It is here,—
Love fails never;
Wisdom wakes ever;
Christ, the perfect child,
Strong as tender, potent, mild,
Gives to all the fruits of true
endeavor.

Hearts attuned the call to hear
Through the stillness, vibrant, clear,
Swift receive it, sing, and know
Love eternal willed it so.
Wisdom gives light;
Love leads aright;
Blessings more abound
Where abiding Truth is found;
And Love, enthroned, makes earth and
heaven bright.
