Christmas Joy

As celebrated by all Christendom, Christmas is a season of great joy. Many who observe this festal time are quite unaware of the deeper reasons for the common expression of joy and gratitude which accompany the Christmas festivities; yet all seem, unconsciously perhaps, to partake of something of the light-heartedness and good-will which express the spirit of Christmas. Issac Watts, with keen spiritual insight, voiced this joy in the words of a familiar hymn, the first stanza of which runs thus:—

Joy to the world,—the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing.
