[Written for the Sentinel]

Mother-Love

O Love divine, that gavest me my sight,
Grant me, in gratitude, from just this hour
To see aright.

In dark discouragement I've groped
With eyes fast sealed;

Now Love has brushed aside the veil,
The truth revealed.

Each gentle child whose sweetness stirs my heart,

Speaks love. Each woman's mother-selflessness
Doth love impart.

Each manly effort to protect
From error's snares

Is but the mother-thought of Love
Divine, that cares.

O perfect Love, Thou Father-Mother One,

May I in joy for thus manifest
Love good alone.

Reflecting this to darkened hearts,
With false sense blind,

May I enable others, too,
The Christ to find.
