After being led hither and thither for many years, seeking...

After being led hither and thither for many years, seeking relief from the bondage of sin and discord of every description, I had the good fortune to see a window card announcing a Christian Science lecture. My strong desire to hear the lecture, coupled with the weariness of this world and everything it seemed to hold for me, must have prepared my thought for the wonderful message received. Upon looking back to note progress I know that from the moment the window card was read, Christian Science commenced for me its work of regeneration and restoration. The atmosphere of the edifice where the lecture was delivered; the splendid service of the ushers, who were, naturally, watched very closely by the newcomer as a "peculiar people;" the beautiful verses on the wall from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy,—all these prepared the soil for the seed which was to be planted that memorable evening by the lecturer on Christian Science. From the moment I entered the building, a branch of The Mother Church, cigarettes were discarded, and the appetite for them was at the same time swept away. Materia medica was also relinquished as completely, although I had previously been in the habit of buying every nostrum that appeared upon the market. Four months after I heard the lecture, a customer, whom I called upon every six months, asked me what I had done to alter my appearance so entirely.

Christian Science has been the means of healing hemorrhoids and headaches, which a loved one had mistakenly assured me were my heritage, and which had clung to me for more than thirty-five years. It is unnecessary to enumerate all the woes from which I was delivered. It is sufficient to say that I have been healed of all the difficulties attendant upon what is known as a mental, physical, and moral wreck.

This testimony would be incomplete without a word of gratitude to those who have so lovingly and forbearingly helped me over the rough places and through the dark ones, who have not withheld the word of praise or the gentle rebuke when either was needed. Of Mary Baker Eddy I am not capable of writing as I would; but I can earnestly pray to be given strength and understanding enough to approach the glorious example she has left for all to emulate.
