Power of a Right Decision

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." These words of Jesus shed their illuminating light upon the dark problems of human experience, bringing forth the great fact that the only thing one ever has to do—the only thing one can do—is to decide to be obedient to divine Principle. When we have done that, our problem is solved. This is clearly indicated in the following words from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 419): "Your true course is to destroy the foe, and leave the field to God, Life, Truth, and Love, remembering that God and His ideas alone are real and harmonious."

Sometimes mortal thought tries to deceive one into believing that he must change his environment, his business, indeed his entire future, in order to find health, happiness, and success; whereas, in reality, his salvation lies in deciding to stand with divine Principle, Truth. As Paul put it to the Ephesians, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

The writer remembers one of her early experiences in applying the rule of Christian Science and gaining its perfect demonstration. There had been a long, hard battle with sense-testimony, in which medical practice figured largely, until upon the horizon of prayerful expectaion there dawned the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy, as given in Christian Science. New hope, new life, sprang up to overthrow the laws imposed by mortal belief. Yet back in consciousness there lurked the mental reservation to retain a prescription that scemed to have had power to overcome suffering and ward off death. The wide-awake practitioner soon discovered this enemy, and said, "When you can say with Job, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him,' you will be healed." These words acted as a "twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow." They cut their way into thought and rent asunder the veil of matter.
