Out of gratitude for the benefits I have received from...

Out of gratitude for the benefits I have received from Christian Science, I should like to give the following testimony. For over ten years I was a confirmed invalid, due to an internal complaint. Ultimately, on the advice of a medical specialist, I underwent an operation, which seemed to give me relief for a while. This was only temporary, however, and I was told to prepare for a second operation.

At this stage, a friend suggested that I should get a book called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had never heard of Christian Science before, but felt sure that the book would be interesting reading. I therefore borrowed it from the Christian Science Reading Room in this city, to take it with me into the country, where I was going the next day in the hope of gaining strength for the operation. I started reading immediately, and had not read many pages before a great light and joy dawned upon my consciousness. Not for a moment did I doubt that at last I had got hold of the truth about God and man. All that had before seemed dark, contradictory, and confusing in the Bible became clear. I only desired to read more and more of this wonderful book.

Before starting on my journey I destroyed the collection of medicine, pills, and so forth, that I was to have taken with me to the country, and determined to rely on God as my only helper. My healing was instantaneous. The quiet month in the country gave me the opportunity of reading Science and Health twice over; and I returned home a new woman, with my whole outlook on life changed. This healing took place nearly six years ago; and when I look back on these six years, my heart just overflows with gratitude to God for all the healings spiritually, as well as physically, that have come to me and mine. I thank God that Mrs. Eddy, by her purity and goodness, was enabled so to present our Master's words and works that we have a present, practical religion with "signs following."
