Lethbridge Herald
Christian Science is not "a new brand of optimism." It is the new-old religion of Jesus the Christ. Christian Science reveals the law of God, the same law that was revealed by Moses and fulfilled by Christ Jesus. Thus Christian Science is vastly more than optimism. The word "optimism" does not occur even once in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This is mentioned in order to make clear that Christian Science does not teach its students to strive after a superficial expression of optimism. Christian Science gives a strong, abiding faith in the supremacy of good. This is the result of the realization of the omnipotence and ever-presence of God, good. Thus, too, it is obvious that Christian Science is not "based on philosophical and mystical ingenuities." It is based on the changeless truth of being, which human philosophy has blindly groped after, and which mysticism would becloud, but which the Christianity of Jesus when understood makes plain. Christian Science clears away the mystery that seems to hide from view the spiritual realities of Life, and makes these realities available in daily living.
