In gratitude to God for His goodness and mercy, to our revered Leader for her untiring efforts for the uplift of humanity, and to those loving friends who guided my footsteps to the portals of the truth that makes man free, I send this testimony, with the hope that it may help some weary pilgrim in his struggle, as I have been helped. When Christian Science first came to me I was in darkest despair, facing a possible operation for a so-called incurable disease. It was at this time that "man's extremity" proved to be "God's opportunity," for having seen the inefficacy of four previous operations, I realized the futility of further aid from a material basis. Hearkening to the still, small voice of Truth, just the thought of giving Christian Science a trial and thereby placing myself in God's care, brought a sweet assurance of peace and lifted a heavy burden from my heart. With the loving help of a practitioner, an instantaneous healing followed, and I awakened from the dream of mortality, with its many attendant woes, to the realization that man is immortal, since he is God's reflection, and only that which is harmonious and good can be a part of his life.

Since that time, a little over a year ago, I have enjoyed almost perfect health, and sunshine and happiness abide where suffering and despair formerly reigned. Among the many fetters of bondage from which I have been freed are extreme nervousness, severe headaches, indigestion, intense abdominal pains, and an unconquerable fear of storms. Glasses, which were worn for many years, were discarded when I came to the realization that sight is not produced by the retina of the eye, but is "spiritual discernment," as Mrs. Eddy shows in the Glossary of Science and Health (p. 586), where she defines eyes as "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." To prove the efficacy of Christian Science and the absolute power of God, I wish to state that recently I was examined for life insurance, by the physician who was in attendance prior to my coming into Science, with the result that I was pronounced absolutely free from any organic or other trouble, and was therefore accepted by the insurance company.

For the many physical benefits I have received I am grateful beyond words of expression, but these fade into insignificance when compared to the spiritual understanding which has come to me through the word of Truth. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church, as well as of that in our branch church. And so I say in the words of Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 45), "Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of human hope and faith, and through the revelation and demonstration of life in God, hath elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual idea of man and his divine Principle, Love."
