Christian Science has meant everything to me

Christian Science has meant everything to me. It has given me life, not only in a spiritual sense, but in a literal sense as well. About ten years ago, while I was suffering great pain and taking doses of morphine at regular intervals, a dear neighbor of ours who had been healed in Christian Science, sent a practitioner over to our house to give me a treatment. As soon as she seated herself by the bed and started with the treatment, I felt a great sense of peace and fell into a natural sleep; but when I awoke I shut the door on Truth by demanding more morphine, in spite of the fact that I was then free from pain.

If I had heeded this proof, how much suffering I would have been spared! Instead, I went blindly on in the dream of material living, and for years dragged out a weary existence of continuous suffering. I again tried Christian Science treatment for the trouble and in a short time all the symptoms disappeared, so I stopped treatment; but two years later I again failed to do as Mrs. Eddy says on page 392 of Science and Health, "Stand porter at the door of thought." Resentment, grief, and fear entered my mental abode, with the result that the trouble returned in much worse form.

My mother, having been a practicing physician, decided that she would not trust such a serious (so named by medical law) disease to Christian Science treatment, so two competent physicians were called, who treated me for two days.
