Among the Churches

Current Notes

Rochester, N. Y.—To form a Second Church of Christ, Scientist, members of First Church made known their willingness to resign, and have leased the second and third stories of the A. Friederich & Sons Company Building at Lake and Glenwood Avenues. The plans for remodeling the interior called for an auditorium on the second floor to seat three hundred persons, and for a reading room on the same floor that would make it possible to accommodate three hundred and fifty people by opening doors into the main room. The third story makes a good sized Sunday school room.

Although it is less than three years since the Christian Scientists opened their house of worship at East Avenue and Prince Street, the attendance increased so rapidly that several months ago the auditorium, with a seating capacity of about twelve hundred, became inadequate. Part of the congregation was required to attend only one service on Sunday, to make room for the remainder, and it was necessary to hold two Sunday school sessions.

For a long time the committee of Second Church searched to find a convenient meeting place in a residential section, as they wanted to establish the new church at a considerable distance from East Avenue in order to accommodate persons living a long way from First Church. These and others who have not attended regularly will attend the church on Lake Avenue, it is expected.
