It is with a grateful heart that I try to tell of the blessings...
It is with a grateful heart that I try to tell of the blessings received from Christian Science. In the year 1913 I was stricken with organic heart disease and dropsy. My body was swollen all out of proportion and I had such smothering spells that I could not sleep, and feared I would pass on in one of them. After taking medicine for many weeks without benefit, I lost faith in doctors. I was gradually growing worse, and finally was on the verge of giving up my work, which is that of an engineer.
At this time, however, being advised to try Christian Science, I called on a practitioner, with very little faith that I would receive any help but with the thought that it was my only chance. As I did not improve I changed practitioners, and at my first call on the second practitioner the fear left me. I was informed that I had something to do myself, so I purchased a copy of Science and Health and was shown how to study Lesson-Sermon. At once my interest was awakened and I began to think of health and perfection in place of disease. I became so interested in reading the Bible and Science and Health that they were my constant companions.
Daily I have taken Science and Health with me to my work, and daily I have come to know more of God and the real man. I have grown into health and happiness, and in spite of the fact that being an engineer I have been compelled to work in a temperature of from 112 to 120 degress, I have never lost a day since turning to Christian Science. I had been on a diet for some time, afraid to eat most things, but since taking Science treatment I have been able to eat without any discomfort anything that my wife sets before me. My health is as good now as it ever was. At the time I became ill with heart disease two of my neighbors were taken sick with the same trouble, followed by the same symptoms. They were both under the care of physicians and sent to the hospital, and have both passed on since that time.
