Among the Churches
Current Notes
San Bernardino, Cal .—First Church of Christ, Scientist, will hold its initial services in the new church building tomorrow [June 10]. The edifice has just been completed at an approximate cost of twenty-five thousand dollars. Work on the structure has been under way for the past eight months, ground having been broken on Oct. 10, 1916. The corner stone was laid at six o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, May 8, of this year. The large Sunday school room seats two hundred pupils. The balcony seats approximately one hundred and fifty people, and the seating capacity of the auditorium, when the Sunday school room, various class rooms, and the parlor are thrown into one, is about eight hundred.—San Bernardino Sun.
WHITE PLAINS, N. Y.—Supreme Court Justice J. A. Young has granted an order that the application of First Church of Christ, Scientist, be granted, and leave is given to execute a declaration of trust giving real estate in White Plains, and that the money to be received from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, under the declaration of trust, amounting to $7398, be devoted to the building of a new church for $26,500.—Port Chester Item.
TRINIDAD, COL.—Sunday, June 3, marked another epoch in the progress of the Christian Science movement in this city, when the beautiful new structure of the Christian Scientists on Pine Street was dedicated with appropriate ceremony. This church had its inception about eight years ago, when a small number of people interested in the work met in a private home. The meetings were held in private homes for two months and then in November, 1909, Castle Hall was secured as the meeting place. In the summer of 1910 the place of meeting was changed to Odd Fellows Hall, and in August, 1910, Christian Science Society was organized.
