From Our Exchanges

[Western Christian Advocate]

The day is near at hand in this country when Protestantism will find itself in a new world consciousness. For over one hundred years the process of dissection, analysis, and division has been working mightily with the ever growing body of Protestantism. It has been the wonder of men. How has it survived in the midst of the multiplication of sects? It has, and we are now beginning to see there was a divine providence in it all. However, at the present time there are increasing evidences that there is to be a synthesizing period, when the forces, processes, and different types of Protestantism are to come together and form one corporate whole in some expression of solidarity that shall make for the interests of the kingdom of Christ.

Confronted by this prophetic situation there are two needs of Protestantism that must be recongnized, and to which all leaders and laymen must become speedily reconciled. First, there is a growing demand to restore the unity and authority of the church of God. In order to accomplish this, members of reformed churches must find and occupy a common ground of faith and practice. The churches must no longer disagree as to fundamentals of faith. ... The second demand Protestantism makes, as a guaranty of her future, is that we reconstitute the conscience of Christendom. The necessity for this is seen in the fact that at the present time it is savaged and wrecked by tribal ferocities and godless strifes. The kingdom of Christ must prevail. It is appearing more and more as a moving force in this modern world.
