When Christian Science first came into my life, over five...
When Christian Science first came into my life, over five years ago, I was a very delicate girl with many ailments, the worst of which was extreme nervousness. All sorts of remedies had been tried, but they did no permanent good. My sister, who was then beginning to be much interested in Science, lent me her copy of Science and Health, which we read straight through together, and long before it was finished I knew Christian Science was the truth and the religion I had been wanting always. I was much benefited at the time, but did not work hard enough, and was not ready to give up many material pleasures that were considered necessary to my happiness, so I continued for quite a while to read the letter without imbibing the spirit. It is only when we honestly try to apply what we know of Truth that we obtain results.
After many bitter experiences I turned to Christian Science with all my heart, and now am a different person, healthier and better than I have been for years. The nervous condition has greatly improved, and fear is slowly yielding to Truth. With the help of a practitioner I was healed in a few treatments of an abnormal growth, and my little son was healed instantaneously of a severe cough. Greatest of all is the spiritual and moral healing, which is wonderful. Mrs. Eddy tells us to "emerge gently from matter into Spirit" (Science and Health, p. 485); it makes no difference how long it takes, for Science never fails.
For all these blessings I am exceedingly thankful to God. I am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the truth which we can all prove for ourselves, if we are faithful and obedient, however difficult our surroundings may seem.
