I take pleasure in testifying to the healing power of Christian Science...
I take pleasure in testifying to the healing power of Christian Science in sickness, accident, sorrow, business difficulties, and other problems of earthly existence. For many years I had been searching for God, feeling certain that only sufficient knowledge was necessary to enable me to live so as to be successful, happy, and contented. I sought without prejudice, but found that material philosophers offered nothing better than an unknowable God or first cause. I found that "mental science" offered many nice sounding phrases, which could be used for self-hypnotism or autosuggestion, but that it had no basis. The study and proof of Christian Science has set at naught these erroneous beliefs in a power apart from God, divine Mind, and has given me a sure foundation in the ever-presence and omniscience of God.
The first reading of Science and Health convinced me that it contained the truth about God, man, and the universe, and though the way has been devious and thorny, faith in Truth has held me always in the Father's loving arms. At times I seemed to be engulfed in sin and disease and felt that I did not understand, but a more earnest study carried me through the waves of error to the haven of a clearer knowledge of divine Mind.
Many trials have come to me during the past ten years. Several years ago, while in a small southern city, a fireworks bomb struck my forehead between the eyes, crushing in the base of my nose and splintering the bones of the forehead, at the same time filling my face with powder. With the terrific shock came the thought that God is our Life, and that nothing could harm me as God's spiritual child. I held closely to the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) and the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation (p. 16). This clinging to what I had learned about God and man kept out of consciousness the belief in accident and pain. All pain stopped within an hour, although I was compelled to work it out myself, as there was no practitioner in town.
