Christian Science is the greatest blessing that has come...
Christian Science is the greatest blessing that has come into my life. It was presented to me when my extremity was "God's opportunity." My little girl was very ill and according to the doctor's verdict was passing away from an illness which began with chicken-pox and developed into torpid liver and finally diphtheria. A dear friend who was a Christian Scientist told me that God could and would heal my child. These words brought comfort to me, as I had striven to serve God from an early age and prayed unceasingly, but my prayers seemed of no avail. I took the child to a Christian Science practitioner, who gave her a treatment, and in less than three hours she asked for food for the first time in three days; in five days she was herself again.
Christian Science has healed me of several discordant conditions which physicians pronounced incurable, and in December, 1914, a most beautiful demonstration took place in our home at the birth of our son. Through the help and careful guidance of a Christian Science practitioner every material law was broken, and all duties were resumed after a week. The baby has not had a single material remedy. There have also been other healings in our family, such as the overcoming of sick headache, sprained ankles, ptomaine poisoning, stomach disorder, and rheumatism. My mother was healed of paralysis of the spine.
I am indeed grateful for the physical healing, but most of all for the higher concept of God, man, and the universe that I am gaining. Through the understanding of God as taught in Christian Science our home has become more harmonious than ever before. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude. I feel I owe a great debt of love to our revered Leader, who so patiently brought to mankind this new-old religion.—Henrietta W. Sawyer, Houston, Texas.
