The Rev. Mr.—has a misapprehension of the attitude...

Independence (Kan.) Reporter

The Rev. Mr.—has a misapprehension of the attitude of Christian Science toward the Bible. Christian Scientists have the deepest reverence for this Book of books, which is given first place at all their services. The teachings of Christian Science are based upon the spiritual truths which the Scriptures contain. The Mosaic command, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," is a fundamental of Christian Science.

Science and Health, written by Mrs. Eddy, has unfolded to humanity God's infinite law of love as recorded in Holy Writ. It is a Bible help, a "Key to the Scriptures;" and because of its spiritual interpretation of the Bible, unnumbered thousands have learned more of God's omnipotence, and so reflect more of the healing Christ.

No doubt our critic has many Bible helps in his library, and to this no one objects. Then why should it be thought that Christian Scientists are "fooled" because they have a commentary to the Scriptures which enables them to keep the command, "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, ... and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself"?
