"Not conformed to this world"

Recently I had to take a sea journey of two days, and as I had always suffered severely on such occasions before I knew of Christian Science, this experience was of great value and help to me. True, I had already partially demonstrated over seasickness, but on this occasion the wind was blowing almost a gale on the sailing day, and the fear that I was to suffer discomfort seemed persistent, especially as the sea was so rough. However, I took the question to Truth, knowing that there alone could be found the solution of the difficulty, and speedily there came the answer, "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." Instantly it became quite clear to me that it was not a question of the ship or the sea, nor yet the climatic conditions, but solely a matter of whether I was going to conform to the world's belief in seasickness, or whether, with a slight understanding of the truth, I was going to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, and thereby able to demonstrate what the perfect and acceptable will of God is.

The decision was quickly made, and after thanking our loving Father for this wonderful Science which has made possible such better conditions, I set to work to deny the error and affirm the truth. Very soon a favorite text came into my consciousness,—"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork." Before the vessel left the wharf I was conscious that the trip was going to be one of joy and thankfulness, and so it proved, for I was able even to rejoice at the waves.

This experience helped me considerably, not only for the overcoming of the error, but for the proof it afforded of the ever-presence and all-power of Christ, Truth. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 230 of Science and Health, "If sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, holiness, and immortality;" and she adds, "This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of Truth, which casts out error and heals the sick."
