Before learning of Christian Science I suffered from...
Before learning of Christian Science I suffered from asthma for a number of years. Dust and foggy atmosphere caused severe attacks, so that the nights were sure to be sleepless. Whenever I went to a town about twenty-six miles distant, the trouble would come on with the night, so that I would be glad to return home the next day. As soon, however, as I commenced to read Science and Health and apply its teachings, I began to receive help for this condition.
One Wednesday evening, after sweeping and dusting all day, I started for church. It was very foggy, and by the time I reached there I could scarcely breathe; but during the meeting some one told of an article in the Journal that had been very helpful to her. I procured a copy of this periodical, and on reaching home read and studied that article, searching for the truth which Jesus said would make us free. I rested comfortably all night, and the next morning while reading the Lesson-Sermon the truth was revealed to me. On page 14 of Science and Health we read: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." This is just what happened to me, for instantly all sense of hard breathing left me. Later in the day I went for a drive, and although the weather was still very foggy, it had no effect on me, and has not had since.
I have had many other healings in the five years during which I have depended on Christian Science, such as the overcoming of defective eyesight, stomach and liver troubles, as well as severe head colds; but the greatest blessing that has ever come into my life is the understanding of this truth, for it enables me to apply the Principle to every problem which may be mine to solve. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science, and am realizing more each day what Mrs. Eddy has given to mankind. I now enjoy good health, and am glad to testify to the healing power of Truth.
