In a recent issue there appears the report of a lecture on Christian Science by Dr.—. A better designation for the article would have been, "A lecture on what Dr.—imagines Christian Science to be," which is a very different thing. If one were to reverse every statement the doctor made on the subject, a much more correct view of it would be obtained.

A good example of the doctor's perversion of the Christian Science teaching is given when he says: "If we have accepted Mrs. Eddy's myth that God is all, in the sense that He is everything in time and space, we must conclude, therefore, that God is evil, for evil is a thing in time and space." Christian Science teaches that God is Spirit, and that His universe is spiritual; and since He is infinite, eternal, and immortal, His universe must express these conditions. Time and physical space, being concepts of the finite human mind, the carnal mind, do not express in any way reality in an absolute sense On page 300 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent."

It is strange that our critic objects to Mrs. Eddy's definition of God as "divine Principle" (Science and Health, p. 115). If he would take the trouble to look up the meaning of the word in any good dictionary, he would find that it means cause, in its widest sense; foundation, source, or origin. Surely it is not difficult to think of God as any one of these. Christian Science teaches that God is Person in an infinite sense, but not in any humanly circumscribed sense. Mrs. Eddy discovered the divine Principle by which Jesus performed his mighty works, and which can be demonstrated by any one to the extent that he has that Mind in him "which was also in Christ Jesus." Today this Science is being judged by its fruits, the healing of suffering humanity, and those who are investigating it throughout the civilized world with an open mind, are being healed as of yore when the great Physician dwelt among men.
