It is not altogether a pleasing spectacle to witness the denunciation of the followers of one Christian religion by another of that faith, even though there may be differences on certain doctrinal points. The report which appeared in a recent issue of the Telegram, of an address delivered in your city by an evangelist, contains some very unkind, uncalled-for statements concerning Christian Science, and I am sure you will be glad to offer your readers a brief word of correction.

If memory serves me aright, the Christian church was at one time referred to as the Campbellite faith; and while the law of gravitation has seldom been referred to as Newtonism, it would be quite as logical as to designate Christian Science by the term "Eddyism," a little habit indulged in by the critic in the present instance. The speaker asserted that Christian Science appeals "to those with education, wealth, leisure," as if these were conditions of discord which mankind is seeking to overcome. As a matter of fact, Christian Science appeals to every human being who seeks freedom from bondage to material beliefs.

Just as "God is no respecter of persons," and as Christian Science teaches the truth about God and man's relationship to Him; and as Christ Jesus has promised each one of us who believe in him that this truth will make us free, and as Christian Science is proving daily and hourly that the promise is true,—just so it is that people in every walk of life have found the "pearl of great price" in the spiritual freedom of the sons of God, and they are filled with gratitude and joy over the glorious discovery. Christian Science healing does not imply the destruction of physical discord alone, for that is the least of its accomplishments, and in reality can prevail only when wrong thought-methods have been overcome. Christian Science healing means the overcoming of the entire train of evil, and with its disappearance from human consciousness improved bodily conditions are manifested.
