[Written for the Sentinel]

Thine and Mine

Amid the clamor of the day,
In common walk or solitude,
An inward song a soft prelude
Enjoins, then drives all care away.

O faith, that needs not sight to see,
Dwell steadfast in my heart of hearts,
Nor let vain doubt divide in parts
God's garment new that covers me!

O hope, my one perennial spring,
From which outpours life's river pure,
Remain fore'er serene, secure,
And thy immortal message bring!

O Love, with wondrous healing touch,
Brood o'er us and abide with me;
Impart thine own sweet constancy,
Of which I cannot have too much!

One Mind divine, supplanting mine,
One cause, one law, one purpose good,
Which furnishes eternal food,—
Let Thine be mine and mine be Thine!
