About twelve years ago we took up the study of Christian Science...
About twelve years ago we took up the study of Christian Science in our home, and it was not for physical healing alone, but because of its beauty as a religion. We realized at once that it was the teaching of the Master.
We have had many demonstrations of the power of Truth, and in all these years Christian Science has been our only physician. I would like to tell of my own healing, in August, 1912, for which I am very grateful. I was taken with severe pain in the chest and shoulder and at times could scarcely breathe. For three or four days I did not lie down on the bed, but had to be propped up with pillows, and I could hardly walk from one room to another. My parents decided we would have to ask for help from a practitioner, and as there is none in Hereford, we wrote to the one who lived nearest us. She gave me absent treatment, and I improved somewhat for a few days, but one evening I seemed to get worse, my suffering being intense. We telephoned the practitioner of my condition about dark, and in the mean time we called in some neighbors who are Scientists, as there was so much fear. About eleven o'clock that night I told them all to go to bed, for I was feeling better, and in a short time every one was asleep. At two o'clock I awoke perfectly healed, not only physically but spiritually. My suffering was all gone, and I was so happy. For two hours I praised God all alone, but I could wait no longer to tell the good news, so I called my mother and told her I was healed. Next day I went about my work as if nothing had been the matter. I was perfectly healed, and have had no return of the symptoms.
I am very grateful for the physical healing, but more so for the spiritual uplift and for the understanding I have gained of the truth. There is nothing I enjoy more than the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon. My heart's desire is that I may prove myself worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.—
