It is over four years since I was persuaded by a friend to give Christian Science a trial. I had been suffering with rheumatism, and I experienced difficulty in walking, but in four visits to a Christian Science practitioner I was permanently healed. Soon after this I passed through a deep sorrow in the loss of my mother, and found that even a faint ray of understanding of this truth greatly sustained me.

I did not, however, with all the benefits experienced, apply myself to the study of Christian Science as I should have done. I had an attack of very severe cold, which terminated in what materia medica calls mastoid abscess. I suffered agony for a week, as the pain did not seem to yield readily to treatment. Becoming alarmed, we called in a specialist, who only added to my fear, for after examination he stated that it would be necessary to operate on the throat, ears, and nostrils. I would not submit to an operation, so I again called a Christian Science practitioner.

I had reached the most crucial period in my life, when I must take a stand for God, and God alone. After I had positively decided this, the pain yielded to the truth, and I soon became normal in every respect. The abscess never discharged. For about two months I experienced a dulness in hearing, but this passed away, and I have never been troubled with it since. It was a few months more before the fear of a relapse entirely disappeared, but this has been overcome. Two years having passed, I can say that the healing of both the abscess and the rheumatism has proved perfect, as I have never had a recurrence of either. I have also been healed of severe cramps in the feet, which inconvenienced me more than I can tell. My husband is now in Science, and we are most happy together in its joy- giving work.
