The Peoria Journal
Peoria, Ill. Last February the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, residing on the west bluff, withdrew and organized Second Church. They have since been holding Sunday services in Elysium Theater, 2008 Main street, and Wednesday evening meetings in the auditorium of the Washington school. This step was taken on account of the crowded condition at First Church. At a business meeting held after the regular services last Wednesday evening [May 13], the members of Second Church authorized its board of directors to purchase one hundred feet on Barker avenue, between Institute place and University street. The location is a beautiful one, situated in one of the finest residence districts of Peoria. Exemplifying the harmony which exists among the Scientists of this city, First Church also held a business meeting at the same time, and its congregation was notified that Second Church was about to purchase this site. Many who had not had the privilege of helping build First Church, expressed their satisfaction in now having the opportunity to aid the cause in this way. Others who had helped build First Church, were glad again to express their gratitude for Christian Science in a substantial way. A generous contribution for the building fund of Second Church followed.
