It was not physical illness alone which led me to Christian Science, but a mental hunger for something I did not find in the church I had attended from my youth. I was seeking a fortifying strength, a satisfying rest and happiness, a better knowledge of the Master, Christ Jesus, and of his teachings and example.
About five years ago I went to spend the day with a friend who had been healed in Christian Science two years before. From what she told me about this teaching and what I read in the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I knew it was just the religion for which I had been hungering, so I asked her to send for a copy of the book for me. I was healed at once of female trouble and nervousness. I felt so happy to think I had found the truth, but after a little while, when people laughed at me for saying anything of Christian Science, like Peter I was ready to deny it, or rather I had not the courage to stand up for it. After several other demonstrations with myself and family, however, I gained a firm foundation, and realized that God is my strength. I read from the text-book each day, and through the understanding of Truth gained therein I am made a better woman. It helps me to work out the problems which in the old thought would often seem so difficult.
Through Christian Science I have slowly learned not to worry and not to fear, for God has all power, and He is Love. I am happy and contented, and am striving to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist. I am deeply thankful to God, and grateful to Mrs. Eddy, for all the blessings I have received.—Minnie McCune, Norton, Kan.
