I gladly testify to the blessings which God has bestowed...
I gladly testify to the blessings which God has bestowed upon us through Christian Science. In 1909 I came to America, and was married the following year. As my husband had been healed in 1908 of severe stomach and kidney trouble through Christian Science, his desire was that I too might become interested in the subject, but since my health was good at all times, this teaching failed to attract me. I had been taught that it was wrong to read other religious literature than that of the church in which I had been reared, but after I went through a very trying experience which caused me great suffering, I began to read Der Herold der Christian Science. This gradually awakened my interest and led me to take up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Although this book was published only in English at that time, and I had never before read English, it became possible for me to read it understandingly in a short time.
I was greatly helped through Christian Science at the birth of our second child, and I feel sure that we owe to God, whose power was manifested through the faithful efforts of a practitioner, the fact that our boy is a strong and healthy child. A few weeks after his birth, I had some painful ailments, but these disappeared quickly through absent treatment. I would also mention that since becoming acquainted with Christian Science I have had a good growth of hair.
The Bible, which I never read before knowing of Christian Science, now means daily bread to me, and through the regular study of our text-book in connection with it, there comes a growing sense of joy and harmony, and we are able to grasp more and more the meaning of these words by Mrs. Eddy: "Christianity as Jesus taught it was not a creed, nor a system of ceremonies, nor a special gift from a ritualistic Jehovah; but it was the demonstration of divine Love casting out error and healing the sick" (Science and Health, p. 135). We are grateful for the Herold as well as for the Journal, the Sentinel, and the Monitor, all of which bring us the blessed tidings of Truth.—Helen Blohm, Baltimore, Md.
