The teachings of Christian Science involve no new philosophy, but are those of the Bible, and its practice is in strict conformity with that of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus treated sin and disease as things to be overcome and destroyed through an understanding of God, divine Truth. Had they been creations of God they could never have been destroyed, and Jesus, who did the will of his Father, would not have instructed his followers even to attempt to overcome them.

As Jesus' teaching cannot be separated from his practice, which was the necessary confirmation and proof of their correctness, so likewise the practice of Christian Science cannot be separated from its philosophy; and he who attempts to explain its healing on the basis of hypnotic suggestion and a so–called subconscious mind, is manifestly attempting to explain that of which he has no correct knowledge, while at the same time running perilously close to assuming that Jesus himself was but a mesmerist. Any such theory is man–made, and is directly contrary to the teaching of Christian Science.

The facts of Mrs. Eddy's life show that she is a woman of unusual culture and refinement, but it was her faithful Christian living, and her earnest search to understand God, that fitted her for the experience of His healing power after all human aid had failed, and that raised her from a bed of pain and weakness to become the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
