Eight and a half years ago the truth that sets free came into our home. I had been trying for years to find relief for one of my daughters, who had suffered for thirteen years from a rheumatic affection. Every doctor said she was incurable, the last one we consulted saying to me in her presence that the case was quite hopeless; that she could never be any better, but would gradually grow worse. This was a terrible verdict, as she was already so crippled and helpless.
It was soon after this that Christian Science was brought to our notice as being able to do what the doctors could not do; so we tried it, with the result that in a very short time my daughter was relieved from the pain and suffering, and became well and able to earn her own living. We have had many beautiful demonstrations since that time, and I should like to tell of my own healing. I had a growth in my side for twelve years, with pain and greatly increased suffering whenever I attempted to rest on that side. I made this a matter of prayer, according to the teachings of Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and in a fortnight or three weeks it had entirely disappeared. To me this was a glorious proof of the power of divine Love, that "always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). In 1902 I had class instruction in Christian Science. At that time I had worn glasses for about twenty-seven years, being quite unable to read at all or see well without them. At the close of the class I found my eyesight had been restored, and I have never again worn glasses.
I may add that during the past eight and a half years, since first hearing of Christian Science, we have never consulted a doctor or used any drug or any material means.
