The conflicting methods of treatment in the different...

The conflicting methods of treatment in the different schools of medicine and the lack of unity among physicians of the same school prove that these systems are not founded upon exact science or fixed principle, and because of this people are seeking for something more reliable in their hour of need. Public opinion is changing, and the physician is no longer the court of last resort in the matter of human health.

Christian Scientists have neither time nor inclination to participate in controversies. The all-absorbing question with them is to learn more of the infallible Principle of healing. In searching for this Principle their only guide is the Bible and the teachings of Jesus, who commanded all to follow him and promised to his followers scientific and demonstrable understanding of the truth which he taught and applied. His parting instructions to his disciples were: "go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you;" he also said, "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

In the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, on page 342 it is stated: "If Christianity is not scientific, and Science is not of God, then there is no invariable law, and truth becomes an accident. Shall it be denied that a system which works according to the Scriptures has Scriptural authority?" To quote again, "Our system of Mind-healing rests on the apprehension of the nature and essence of all being,—on the divine Mind and Love's essential qualities. Its pharmacy is moral, and its medicine is intellectual and spiritual, though used for physical healing" (p. 460). Christian Scientists are law-abiding citizens, and heartily cooperate with all who are working for the elevation and progress of mankind, yet the Church of Christ, Scientist, is founded upon the commands of Jesus to preach the gospel and heal the sick, and no other method of healing is acknowledged. While Christian Scientists acknowledge their limited understanding of this Science, and while failures occur in their application of its Principle, nevertheless there are thousands and thousands in all parts of the world who have been healed in Christian Science of all manner of diseases.
