I wish to add my testimony to the vitalizing power of Truth in the healing of both sin and disease, as taught and practised by Jesus, and reduced to a system and made practical for this age by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. My present vigorous physical condition, and whatever moral soundness I may possess, is due entirely to Christian Science. When it found me, eight years ago, I was a physical wreck and most unsound morally. I shall never forget the appearance of a slight girl tripping through a snow-storm to give me my first Christian Science treatment. I had been pronounced an incurable invalid by three eminent medical doctors, but in a very short time I was convinced that this girl knew more than all of them put together,—about my case at least,—and I knew it by immediate relief from suffering and a continued gain in health.
Some of my friends, and I myself at first, tried to find some other cause than Christian Science for the change, but the farther I went in the study and practice of this blessed Christ-teaching, the more clearly did my well-defined regeneration stand out as dating from that first Christian Science treatment. From the day the light of Christian Science first dawned on my vision I have had no desire to try any other method of healing, nor have my family; and I cannot recall that we have taken a does of medicine of any kind, though we have not been wholly free from attacks of disease. I myself have looked death in the face, but was saved by Christian Science treatment.
For all this, and for the purpose to lead a purer, more exalted life, inspired by the teachings of Christian Science, and above all by the example and precepts of our Leader, can any think that I am not grateful? I have no words to express my sense of gratitude! It is deep and true and abiding. Neither can I tell adequately of the peace and joy and hope that have gradually but surely found lodgment in my consciousness, or of the desire that inspires me to gain greater heights in the understanding of one infinite God and His Christ.—C. L. Petrikin, Muncy, Pa.
