The teachings of the Master are what Christian Science...

Medical Times,

The teachings of the Master are what Christian Science upholds and practises, but these teachings do not merely substitute the word "spirit" for "matter;" they do, however, give the disciple or student a scientific reason for understanding and demonstrating that "it is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing," and that, as Mrs. Eddy has written on page 468 of Science and Health, "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal." Christ Jesus healed the sick, reformed the sinner, walked on the water, stilled the tempest, and raised the dead, reversing so-called material laws because he was about his "Father's business;" because he was fulfilling God's law,—the only law; because he was demonstrating the power of Truth.

Christian Science certainly does not "inculcate any new doctrine," but it points its followers to Truth, which has been from all time, and which cannot be changed, think or say what we will. Jesus was the greatest exponent of Truth the world has ever known, and Christian Scientists are striving to follow his example; in fact, they soon learn that unless they do this they can by no means practise Christian Science. It may be said that the basis of Christian Science practice is to "let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,"—to "know the truth" which makes men free, mentally, morally, and physically. The Master said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," and Mrs. Eddy has declared and proved to the world that this statement is as true and as much to be demonstrated today as it was over eighteen hundred years ago. Now most Christian Scientists have doubtless possessed their Bibles for years; but it is only since commencing the study of Science and Health that they have been enabled to understand and apply in some measure the spiritual teachings of which the letter only had previously been familiar.
