In April, 1904, I suffered from a paralytic attack in one arm, and a complete breakdown from worry and overwork. For nearly three years the periods of depression and mental anguish made life a burden to me and to my family. After trying specialists, a rest-cure, change of scene, and massage, all to no avail, I was led to Christian Science through a sister, who investigated it in the hope that I might be willing to try it. She was so greatly benefited that I asked for treatment of her practitioner, though up to this time I had been most violently prejudiced against it. With the first treatment I was wonderfully helped, and though not free from physical suffering. I found myself singing for the first time in years, and the clouds of darkness seemed to have rolled away. My understanding of Science and Health is as yet very imperfect, but through the help received I have enjoyed such health and happiness for the past eighteen months as I never knew before. I am indeed grateful for this healing truth.
Mary M. Bratten, Snow Hill, Md.
I wish to give my testimony to show what Christian Science has done for me. About seventeen years ago my only daughter, then but seven months old, was afflicted with an abscess on her neck, and her mouth was so sore that she refused to ear or drink. She cried almost incessantly, and I was advised to see a Christian Scientist. I had no knowledge of Science, and had never even heard of it before, but I felt a great deal of confidence in the practitioner whom I went to see, because she treated me so kindly. When we first got there the baby was crying, but after the lady had said a few words of comfort to me and given the child a treatment, she ceased to cry and took her food, which she had refused before. The baby was healed within one week. I was also healed of all fear and anxiety, and have ever since been enabled to overcome the sense of disease, poverty, and all kinds of error in my home. Words can never express my gratitude to God for Christian Science, and to Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader.
